Exercise

Exercise's impact on wellness and how ketamine therapy can help

Exercise plays a crucial role in promoting and maintaining good mental health. Engaging in regular physical activity has been linked to a wide range of mental health benefits. Firstly, exercise has a direct impact on brain chemistry. It stimulates the release of endorphins, often referred to as "feel-good" chemicals, which can enhance mood and create a sense of well-being. Exercise also increases the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which are involved in regulating mood and reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Additionally, exercise promotes better sleep patterns, which are essential for optimal mental health. It can help regulate circadian rhythms, reduce sleep disturbances, and improve the overall quality of sleep. Adequate restful sleep is crucial for emotional regulation, cognitive function, and stress management.

Furthermore, exercise offers numerous psychological benefits. It can act as a powerful stress reliever and provide a healthy outlet for managing and coping with stress and tension. Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve self-esteem, and enhance overall psychological well-being. Engaging in exercise can promote a sense of accomplishment, boost self-confidence, and provide a distraction from negative thoughts and worries. Additionally, exercise often takes place in social settings, such as group fitness classes or team sports, which can foster social connections and a sense of belonging. The social interaction and support associated with exercise can contribute to improved mental health outcomes and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. Overall, incorporating exercise into one's routine is a powerful strategy for enhancing mental health, reducing stress, and promoting overall well-being.

Exercise takes time – something we don’t always have a lot of.  We emphasize the importance of 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise each day.  Please be sure that you are healthy enough to participate in an exercise regimen.  You also don’t need to go to the gym to exercise.  There are great exercises that use your own body weight to develop strength.  This group of exercises is called “calisthenics.”

Some Helpful Tips:
  • Take the stairs instead of elevator.
  • Create an exercise schedule at a time that is convenient for you.
  • Try to work exercise into a daily routine (eg, park farther away from work or take public transportation and walk quickly; consider biking instead of motor transportation; consider a fun and active hobby like kayaking or hiking)Buy frozen fish – it can be less expensive, it is easy to buy in bulk, and it can keep for a long time.
