Question:
I have seizures sporadically and for weeks after before my mood is awful and I feel like I’m walking through a dense fog. I had my first seizure since starting and the fog was so deep and my memory worse then its ever been. I noticed a few days later, after I did my Spravato, the fog was completely gone. I was instantly back to normal. Was such a stark contrast. I know Spravato heals the brain. I just found it so fascinating, but wasn’t sure if there was a correlation or it was coincidence.
Answer:
Thanks ImaginaryAmi - I don't know much about how the postal period is impacted by Spravato. after having a seizure, it's common to have what's called a "postical" period, which is a period of time of cognitive fogginess, lethargy, and confusion. Typically, it's relatively short-lived and many people have them after experiencing certain kinds of seizures.
I don't know how Spravato impacts the postictal period and would generally advise caution around using Spravato in the postictal period just because there may be an increased likelihood of falling back into a seizure during that period]
As far as Spravato and general brain fog attributed to depression: there is a lot of evidence that suggests that ketamine can help with some elements of cognitive performance when cognitive underperformance occurs in the context of a mood disorder. So people in the psychiatric world will talk about how processing speed can improve, the medicine can improve dimensions sociability, attention and vigilance can improve, wakefulness can improve -- all elements of cognition and all things that are impacted by depression. As a depression is improved with the treatment, a person might see alongside that some of these discrete cognitive elements also feeling better.
I appreciate the question. and in so far as fogginess may be a result of mood symptoms, it stands to reason that Spravato can be helpful. You noticing that correlation is marvelous. As regards seizures, I think the question still lingers out there and I would suggest speaking with your doctors to make sure everything is on the up and up and you are not at any undo risk.
